Top 3 ways to support your child’s NWEA test practice prep

Parents can support their child’s NWEA MAP preparation by:

  • Finding them a quiet working environment for MAP practice.
  • Purchasing NWEA test practice and/or NWEA MAP practice books.
  • Encouraging suitably challenging reading material.

So, what is the NWEA test format?

The main format of the test is generally dragged and drop or multiple choice or fill in the blanks. The level of the questions is based on students’ academic qualifications. The areas of this test are – Reading, Language use, Mathematics and in some cases General science.

The reading section is dedicated to understanding the capabilities of a student to understand the theories and analysis of a passage. In the section on language use, the skill of grammar and vocabulary is evaluated. In Mathematics, they have to solve arithmetic, algebra, geometry, problem solving based on their age group. And in the science section, questions come from the basics of science.

In this age of technology, all things are concentrated on the digital medium. People become so busy in their life. The students cannot get the best truck as they cannot understand what the problem is mainly suffering them. Parents cannot spend their quality time with their children.

So, it creates a gap between students and educators. In this case, only teachers and schools can help students to get on the right path. This measure of academic progress test helps them to evaluate and the right path for every student.

MAP Test Practice

We believe there are three processes for MAP test practice helps school pupils’…

  • Development of a better understanding of what they read.
  • Grammar skills and vocabulary knowledge.
  • Development of the correct use of both sentences and grammar.

How teachers use NWEA’s MAP

The MAP test is considered an important tool in a teacher’s toolkit.

Since children learn at their own pace, the MAP test supports each child as an individual leaner.

Still, the role of teachers is equally important to ensure that students score well in the MAP test.

For example, thorough checking is vital to identify the wrongs and the ways how they would be corrected.

Here, teachers can play a prominent role. They continuously support children in their progression.

Supporting your child’s MAP test practice

Parents can support their child…

  • By following those teaching methods that best suit their child’s learning style(s).
  • With a quiet working environment for MAP practice.
  • With MAP practice books. Plus suitably challenging reading material to encourage their child to learn new words.
  • Remember, there is no penalty for wrong answers. Scores are determined by the number of questions you answer correctly. Therefore, it is in your best interest to answer every question, even if you are unsure.
  • Read each question carefully, taking the time to choose the best answer. However, keep in mind you must pace yourself since this is a timed test. Practice managing your time wisely by timing yourself during practice sessions.
  • Be sure to read the directions for each subtest carefully. You will be required to perform different tasks for different portions of the test. Do not assume the next section is like the previous one you just completed.
  • Make studying fun by using word and math games. You can find a variety of games on the Internet, as well as taking advantage of games your teachers have introduced in the classroom.
  • Although dictionaries and calculators are not permitted during the test, take advantage of these tools while studying to help reinforce learning.

NWEA MAP test practice

What is the MAP foundation test?

  • Suitable for most new applicants for this examination series.
  • The lowest ZPD level is implemented here and will not be applicable for students who are already at ZPD level 2.
  • The students who are appearing for pre-kindergarten classes or at the beginning stage of kindergarten will find this test suitable for themselves.
  • Once passed, the students will be moving to the standard foundation skill tests.

MAP Adaptive oral reading test (grade-specific)

  • The students are provided with a 50-word picture book and they are asked to speak about the pictures out loud.
  • Students will be assessed based on a time sentenced picture, where their basic comprehension skills will be checked.
  • If a student manages to pass this level, then oral reading will be waiting for them, where they will have to read 3 passages, with 6 comprehension questions in each of them.
  • On the other hand, if a student does not pass the picture-based test, then they will have to start from the foundation level basic test.

Re-taking the MAP foundation test

  • If the student fails to answer at least 15 questions correctly, then he or she will have to take the basic foundation level test.
  • This ensures that the student has not gotten at least 75% accuracy in the test, which is the minimum requirement.
  • The 2-minute sentence reading fluency test is the main deciding factor for the adaptive oral reading test.
  • There is one more determining factor, to pass the test effectively, the student will have to attempt more questions.
  • If a student attempts 14 questions and gets all of them correct, then they will not qualify.
  • On the other hand, if a student attempts 20 questions and gets 16 questions correct, then they will qualify. All these conditions will be applicable for grade 3 or 3+ students.
